Beth Hart is a Los Angeles native and blues-singing rock singer. She was a street performer before she first made her appearance with Immortal in 1995. Her unfiltered, outspoken persona, musicianship, and emotional live shows attracted attention. Chuck Taylor wrote that Hart was "the embodiment of natural women" in the October 2nd issue of Billboard magazine. She is "bawdy, funny, chatty, and free-wheeling with her choice to spiced the language. It's not what she's really good at. She's an elegant, tall singer/songwriter who struts and squalls songs with the vim and energy that is Mick Jagger . Other times she's seated on the piano or on the in the center of the stage with no pretense. The legs of her are crossed across the sides of a chair and she speaks in a delicate, pained voice. Hart has experienced similar reactions since when she first took to the stage at amateur contests as an teen. But, Hart was skeptical about the business of music as it became successful. Then, the globe-trotting over was not good for the group, and Hart disappeared from the scene for nearly four years, time introspection and tackling problems through writing music. Hart was ready to give her career a second chance and returned in 1999, releasing Screamin' for My Supper. It was an album that showed Hart's songwriting talents, with the vulnerability and honesty of songs that dealt with the challenges of life.
